Online Shopping; Technology Prevails

Technology is changing on a daily basis, and it’s making our lives a lot more convenient. All these advances in technology will change the way people work, play, and live. Electronic Business also known as E-Business is a technological factor that is affecting marketing in a big way. Technology, the internet in specific has made business possible, at any time and any place. Online shopping is one of the biggest E-Business in today’s society.

Online shopping is one of my most preferred options. It is available 24/7 365 days a year. Living in a smaller town limits my option to get the things that I like especially when I need them. The lack of stores and products in my town is outrageous and online shopping really changes that. Online shopping offers products that you can’t get in store and even products that are unavailable in store, products that are an online special only. I think that online shopping is one of the best things that has been invented and marketing really contributes to this. Many social media sites have advertisements for different shopping sites. Online shopping is also not limited, you can honestly get almost any product online. Let it be, makeup, clothes, food, glasses, etc. There is so many possibilities.

Sephora happens to be my favorite online store for many different reasons. The main one being, the closest Sephora store to me is 7 hours away. There are many perks to shopping at Sephora online. One of which is the free shipping with a certain price. Especially living in Newfoundland, it’s usually a higher shipping rate and shipping time. They also always have amazing specials and deals only that aren’t offered in store. You also have the choice of becoming a beauty insider and collecting points that contribute to free items you may receive. You also get free samples, up to 3 which each purchase! Something that isn’t offered at the store. The prices are also cheaper online compared to the in store price.

These are many of the reasons that I prefer online shopping and how technology really effects our daily lives. It is truly incredible how you can go online, and purchase many different things and have it delivered straight to your door. I can only imagine the next technological changes in marketing in the coming years.

Frito-Lay; Do Us A Flavor

Marketing is described as the activity for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that benefit the organization, its stakeholders, and society at a large. In order for marketing to be successful, there are many things you can do to contribute. Strategic Marketing is a process directed at the product and market levels so as to allocate resources to viable marketing opportunities. This involves planning, implementation, and control.  In the planning stage, it can occur on two different levels. The functional level refers to specialized activities such as finance, research and development.

Many different companies use the strategic marketing process.  In order to get results, questions and plans must be put in place. Social media is one of the biggest contributors. Many companies use social media websites to ask questions on new products, ideas, and to show promotions. I think that this is one of the best and well-used ideas to date. Everybody uses social media at some point in their life. So why not involve your organization or business in it? What’s there to lose?
Frito-Lay is a company with many different products to offer. The most well-known would probably be Lays Chips. I feel that they use social media and technology to market their products very well. One exact example of this is: Do Us A Flavor.
This project is where you go online and create your own new flavor of lays chips. There is a voting process and different levels. The best and most well liked chip flavor gets created and the creator wins 1 MILLION DOLLARS!

I feel that this company marketed very successfully especially in today’s generation. They knew that a very high majority uses technology. They let the consumer go on and create a flavor that they really figured would sell. This is creating a win-win situation. People love being involved in decisions especially with big selling companies. The consumer gets their flavor created, they win a very big prize amount, and get a lot of media attention. The company gets a brand new product and they didn’t really have to do much for. The consumers did all the work. They voted and picked which they thought would be the best. Not only did they get the winner product, but they got many other possibilities for the future. This is my favorite example of the effect of social media on marketing.

Baby Boomers

Baby Boomers are the people born during the years 1946 to 1964. At that point in time there was a temporary increased birth rate. My parents were both during this era. As most people in this era are retired or retiring. Through my research and knowledge, I feel that there are many different things that will be beneficial and to their interest in the next coming years.
1)      Travel: These ‘baby boomers’ have money to spend and are in retirement and such. They have plenty of time to do many things. Traveling is an amazing experience that most people would love to experience. It is an easier thing for them to be able to do now because most likely, their mortgages and all their obligations are pretty well paid off. They have the funds and freedom to do as they like.
2)      Assisted Living/ Homecare: A lot of elderly people feel better living in places with assistance. Meals provided, health care, help, and other elderly people around. It gives them more of a social environment and also all the help that they could ever need. Most of their children and family would also probably agree that it is a better living situation. It a bigger relief for them not having to be worried about their parents being home and something happening and not having anyone around to help.

3)      Technology: Technology is such a big aspect in today’s society. Children, adults, and elderly people they all use it to some point. Even hearing aids would be part of technology. It may seem a little absurd thinking back in the older days. Realistically though now, my parents are both in their 50’s and they find technology a little challenging sometimes but a big convenience to them. They love to text and it’s an easier way to get in touch, well at least in our family. Skype is also another aspect that they may find beneficial. In many cases, family may be living away or away for certain times. It is a very nice thing to have. It gives you the chance to see each other and talk to each other just like you are near. I think that most people would love the chance to see their distant family.

Ronald McDonald House Charity

Since I work at McDonald’s, I find it fitting to have my first blog post about McDonald’s and the Ronald McDonald House Charity most of all! McDonald’s is a fast food chain, and wildly popular in Canada and the United States. McDonald’s is the world’s largest fast food chain. Serving over 68 million people per day! McDonald’s is such a simple and easy place to have a quick snack, lunch or a meal with the kids. McDonald’s is famous for many different items, one of those being the Happy Meal. McDonald’s is a restaurant that is based for children. As an employee of McDonald’s, I always try to interact with the children as much as possible. Talking to them, showing them the available toys, and giving them a little extra kids pack. Just to give them some attention and show that they are one of the main focuses.

McDonald’s has many promotions and specials, daily, weekly and monthly. As an example, Monopoly Stickers, Coupons, Free Coffee Promotions and many many more. McDonald’s is also a very popularly promoted fast food chain. It’s everywhere you look really. From billboards to TV commercials, radio commercials, coupons in the mail, online coupons. Even on video games, little children’s toys. I remember when I was a kid, I had the McDonald’s cash register and food with it. I loved that type of stuff. McDonald’s has a target audience to everyone, in many different ways.
One of the biggest things McDonald’s has going for them, is the Ronald McDonald House Charity. From any happy meal, any day, any time, 10 cents gets donated to the RMHC. There are special days as well that contribute to this charity. McHappy day which is May 6th of every year is one of the biggest contributions to the charity. So on this day, $1 from every Big Mac meal, Happy Meal, McCafe product including coffee and McFlurries goes directly to the RMHC. It is such an amazing day. I don’t know how other McDonald’s celebrates it, but at my local McDonald’s, we have volunteers come in and help serve the customers. Police Officers, Teachers, and News Reporters all stop by and help us out. We have events happening for the kids, cake, drinks. Just a nice way to show our appreciation for everything everyone does to help! At my local McDonald’s as well, we have jeans day, we pay $1 to wear a jeans and we start our own little fund for the house! Recently in the last month, we had a Thank You day from the Ronald McDonald House Families, which involved them creating thank you cards and sending them to stores all over and every person that came to McDonald’s received one. It truly was such a heart-warming experience. Especially seeing how thankful not only the families were but the sick children as well.

Now finally I can tell you about the Ronald McDonald House. There is 14 of these amazing houses across Canada. The closest one to me, is in St. Johns, Newfoundland. Sadly, there is only one in Newfoundland. The Ronald McDonald House is a house built for families of sick children. There is usually a RMH where there is a Children’s Hospital nearby. No matter how old someone is, it’s always hard dealing with a sick child or even just a sick person. When you love someone, you can feel their hurt too. So the RMH is a place that you can stay, that allows you to be near and with your sick child in their time of need especially when you are out of town or area. It has home cooked meals for you and your family. Private rooms, play rooms, playgrounds, picnic tables, and more. There’s always events and people stopping by. The first house every built was in 1981 in Toronto. The charity has awarded over $67 million dollars in grants to build houses and rooms and help local children’s charities. The St. Johns RMH has 15 family suites. The average cost to operate a room is $122 dollars a night. It is an average of $10-15 dollars a night per family. But you pay what you can pay, if you are in a tough situation and can only afford $5 dollars a day, then that’s way you pay. If you can’t afford anything, then you don’t pay anything. It’s such a blessing to have such amazing resources like programs and houses like the Ronald McDonald Houses.

One of my co-workers and close friends actually stayed there for 46 nights. She had pre-eclampsia and a lot of pregnancy complications because of that. Which involved her having a C-section that saved her life and her baby’s life! She was forced to deliver early, or she would have died from complications. That meant giving life to her precious little baby before she was full term. She had to stay in hospital with her daughter for a while and then the house after until the baby was able to go back home. Home being about 8 hours away from the house! She is so thankful to the house and charity and she says it changed her life and it was an amazing place and experience. Her and her family are very big in promoting and fundraising for the house. She does many radio interviews for awareness before McHappy Day and such. She donates herself. She always stops by when she’s in town. Even at work, she always receives so many helping donations from customers. The Ronald McDonald House definitely is an eye open and a life changing resource.

In closing, the Ronald McDonald House Charity is always looking for donations and volunteers. There’s links below with more information, contact information and ways to donate on the sites. Remember every cent counts, and every cent goes towards families being with their sick children in their time of need. © ©

All About Me!

Hey everyone! :) This is my first blog and I’m a pretty shy person in general. I’ve been such a private person for most of my life, but taking courses online has forced me to lose that habit! So I’m really new to the whole idea of blogging! Let me introduce myself first, my name is Kayla Barry. I’m 20 years old. I’m a first year Business Administration student, my focus is Human Resource Management. I’m currently a manager at McDonald’s. I love my job, I love my co-workers, and I’ve been there 5 years now! I love people, literally, I love getting to know people and building bonds and relationships with people. I’m a really lovey person and probably the most emotional person ever. But I wouldn’t change a thing about it! Anyways, that’s enough about me. I hope you enjoy my block. Any feedback is appreciated! XOXO <3
