Marketing is described as the activity for creating,
communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that benefit the
organization, its stakeholders, and society at a large. In order for marketing
to be successful, there are many things you can do to contribute. Strategic Marketing is a
process directed at the product and market levels so as to allocate resources
to viable marketing opportunities. This involves planning, implementation, and
control. In the planning stage, it can
occur on two different levels. The functional level refers to specialized activities
such as finance, research and development.
Many different companies use the strategic marketing
process. In order to get results,
questions and plans must be put in place. Social media is one of the biggest contributors.
Many companies use social media websites to ask questions on new products,
ideas, and to show promotions. I think that this is one of the best and
well-used ideas to date. Everybody uses social media at some point in their
life. So why not involve your organization or business in it? What’s there to
lose?
Frito-Lay is a company with many different products
to offer. The most well-known would probably be Lays Chips. I feel that they
use social media and technology to market their products very well. One exact
example of this is: Do Us A Flavor.
This project is where you go online and create your
own new flavor of lays chips. There is a voting process and different levels.
The best and most well liked chip flavor gets created and the creator wins 1
MILLION DOLLARS!
I feel that this company marketed very successfully
especially in today’s generation. They knew that a very high majority uses
technology. They let the consumer go on and create a flavor that they really
figured would sell. This is creating a win-win situation. People love being
involved in decisions especially with big selling companies. The consumer gets
their flavor created, they win a very big prize amount, and get a lot of media attention.
The company gets a brand new product and they didn’t really have to do much for.
The consumers did all the work. They voted and picked which they thought would
be the best. Not only did they get the winner product, but they got many other possibilities
for the future. This is my favorite example of the effect of social media on
marketing.
